— 1,000 Valentines for each nuclear weapons free year!
2007 is the 40th birthday year of the Treaty of Tlatelolco. On Wednesday, February 14, 1967, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean gave the world a magnificent valentine: the world's first nuclear weapons free zone. Impelled by the Cuban Missile Crisis, all of the countries south of the US/Mexican border joined together in creating the Treaty of Tlatelolco, banning the development and even the presence of nuclear weapons in their territory. They have inspired the creation of four additional zones around the world, including the first one in the Northern Hemisphere in October 2006 among the Central Asian republics. Today, the entire Southern Hemisphere is a virtual nuclear weapons free zone. These zones of the world have already accomplished what the rest of the world is attempting to do: abolish nuclear weapons.
Atomic Mirror invites YOU to join artists, musicians, writers and human beings all over the planet in sending a Valentine Thank You message throughout this 40th birthday year.
